Originally from South London and now based in Hampshire, Michael is a full-time painter whose work explores the tension between perception and imagination. After a long career in education, he returned to painting five years ago, reigniting a lifelong fascination with urban landscapes and architecture.
Michaels oil paintings focus on city reflections—distorted, layered, and ambiguous—as both subject and metaphor. These images hover between reality and illusion, inviting the viewer to question what is seen and what is felt. Through this visual language, he aims to create spaces that are emotionally resonant, intellectually engaging, and subtly detached from literal representation.
Rather than simply mimicking the visible world, his work evokes the feeling of ‘being’ in a place, physically, emotionally, and psychologically. It offers not an escape, but a perspective: a way of seeing that is both immersive and reflective.
